Welcome to the world of R. Garrett Wilson. Let me tell you how this all got started…
I used to read a lot in Jr. High and High school, mostly classics. I read The Count
of Monte Cristo (Dumas), The Red Badge of Courage (Crane), Hamlet (Shakespeare),
The Call of the Wild (London), To Kill a Mockingbird (Lee), The Silence of the Lambs
(Harris), Silver Chief (O'Brien), The Indian in the Cupboard (Banks), and a whole
lot more. I wrote too - lots of poetry and a few short stories. I was even the president
of our school literary club for a semester. However, I lost that somewhere along
the way (I blame Calculus and Linear Algebra). Fast forward 10+ years...
One day, before I was going on a six hour flight, I was asking around the office
for a book to read that I could finish in 12 hours. My friend/supervisor handed
me a book that he had just finished, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Rowling).
I did in fact finish the book during the round trip flights. I was completely taken
to another world and fell back in love with reading.
Since then I have read the rest of the Harry Potter series (Rowling) followed by
- The Da Vinci Code (Brown)
- Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow (Card)
- the Books of the Ember series (DuPrau)
- the Hornblower series (Forester)
- Legend and The King Beyond the Gate (Gemmell)
- the Sword of Truth series (Goodkind)
- Jumper, Reflex, and Griffen's Story (Gould)
- Who Moved My Cheese? (Johnson)
- Dragon Champion (Knight)
- Bird by Bird (Lamott)
- The Chronicles of Narnia (Lewis)
- the Bourne Identity (Ludlum)
- When God Whispers Your Name (Lucado)
- Host (Meyer)
- the Twilight series plus The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner (Meyer)
- Mormon Enigma: Emma Hale Smith (Newell, Avery)
- Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (Riordan)
- The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings (Tolkien)
- The Shack (Young)
- A ton of baby books
I am sure I have read a few more books in that time and I apologize to the authors
I forgot to mention.
I am reading Foundation (Asimov), and plan on reading Dune (Herbert), Anarra: War
of the Paths (Pepper), The Time Traveler's Wife (Niffenegger), and the rest of the
Olympians series (Riordan), the Ender series (Card), and the Drenai series (Gemmell).
These are my inspirations and influences. The characters and authors are some of
my heroes.
I have now written one book (working title Spring Meets Winter). I am working on
two other books: The Open Door - part of the Passages of Consequence series and
The Cleansing - part of the Chimree Republic series. I am also developing ideas
for a sequel to SMW. For details on Spring Meets Winter follow the links on my site.
I should have more information on either The Open Door or The Cleansing before the
end of the year. While I someday hope to be mentioned in the same sentence as those
greats listed above, right now I am just working on getting published.
Feel free to look around my site and come back for updates on publication and, eventually,
appearances.
